With the first drop of the autumn/winter collections in the shops and everyone talking up new season pieces, it could be very easy to let Oxfam's #secondhandseptember campaign pass you by - but there's is no escaping the harsh reality of what is happening to our plant and we all have to start playing our part, no matter how small. Vintage and pre-loved are of course another way approach new season, yet I know it can still feel like a minefield for a lot of people, especially when it comes to purchasing vintage (which is classed as anything that’s over 20 years old).

There’s definitely an art to wearing vintage in a modern way, which comes down to having a strong style aesthetic and the confidence to style it with more contemporary pieces. I’m always on the look out for pieces with a 70/80’s vibe and it was love at first sight when I spotted this blouse at Valery’s Vintage as the necklace has got all the Isabel Marant AW19 feels (see buttoned up pic). It’s also about having an eye for what to look for and how to look for it, but with so many beautifully curated stores who do all the hard work for you, vintage really is as an option for everyone now. And with some brilliant pre-loved sites doing the same, there’s plenty of options on that front too.

If you are going to buy new, then working with a stylist will ensure you shop in a more considered way. Making sure you buy timeless pieces, which can be worn in multiple ways and that form part of a curated wardrobe. There’s a misconception that working with a stylist means spending money on clothes you don’t need, but it couldn’t be more opposite. I get my clients wardrobes into such good shape after two seasons, they don’t need to work with me again for a long time - and clients that do a wardrobe recharge with me, often don’t need to buy any new clothes at all.

There are so many different ways you can approach new season and if you would like any help from me to think outside the box then get in touch to book a 15 minute consultation call HERE.
